Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and RNA polymerase II transcription regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of smoothened signaling pathway and regulation of transcription, DNA-templated. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including hematopoietic stem cell homeostasis; positive regulation of protein localization to nucleus; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in cytoplasm; non-motile cilium; and nuclear speck. Is expressed in several structures, including early conceptus; gut; nervous system; oocyte; and retina layer. Used to study nephronophthisis 7. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in nephronophthisis 7. Orthologous to human GLIS2 (GLIS family zinc finger 2).
