Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; E-box binding activity; and histone deacetylase binding activity. Involved in cellular response to dexamethasone stimulus; negative regulation of macromolecule metabolic process; and protein-containing complex assembly. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of cysteine-type endopeptidase activity involved in apoptotic signaling pathway and positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Part of transcription repressor complex. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; dorsal root ganglion; early conceptus; genitourinary system; and gut. Orthologous to human TFAP4 (transcription factor AP-4).
