Involved in several processes, including cellular response to gamma radiation; cellular response to organonitrogen compound; and positive regulation of cell population proliferation. Located in several cellular components, including apical plasma membrane; focal adhesion; and stress fiber. Part of NADPH oxidase complex. Colocalizes with perinuclear endoplasmic reticulum. Used to study hypertension and pulmonary hypertension. Biomarker of diabetic retinopathy; end stage renal disease; hypertension; and myocardial infarction.
