Enables SUMO-specific isopeptidase activity. Involved in fat cell differentiation and protein desumoylation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including embryonic placenta development; negative regulation of DNA damage response, signal transduction by p53 class mediator; and regulation of cell cycle process. Located in cytoplasmic vesicle and nuclear body. Colocalizes with PML body. Is expressed in several structures, including blastocyst; central nervous system; early embryo; extraembryonic component; and retina. Orthologous to human SENP2 (SUMO specific peptidase 2).
