Enables calcium-induced calcium release activity; ryanodine-sensitive calcium-release channel activity; and scaffold protein binding activity. Involved in several processes, including metal ion transport; negative regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; and response to magnesium ion. Located in several cellular components, including A band; sarcolemma; and sarcoplasmic reticulum membrane. Is extrinsic component of cytoplasmic side of plasma membrane. Part of protein-containing complex. Colocalizes with Z disc. Used to study congestive heart failure. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy; arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia 2; and catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia 1. Orthologous to human RYR2 (ryanodine receptor 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]
