Involved in several processes, including heterophilic cell-cell adhesion via plasma membrane cell adhesion molecules; homophilic cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules; and synapse organization. Acts upstream of or within bone development; calcium-independent cell-cell adhesion via plasma membrane cell-adhesion molecules; and unidimensional cell growth. Located in several cellular components, including basolateral plasma membrane; cell body fiber; and varicosity. Is integral component of postsynaptic membrane. Is active in Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse. Is integral component of presynaptic membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including nervous system; respiratory system; sensory organ; tooth; and urinary system.
