Enables calcium channel regulator activity and store-operated calcium channel activity. Involved in activation of store-operated calcium channel activity; regulation of store-operated calcium entry; and store-operated calcium entry. Located in endoplasmic reticulum; growth cone; and plasma membrane. Used to study nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Stormorken syndrome; immunodeficiency 10; and tubular aggregate myopathy 1. Orthologous to human STIM1 (stromal interaction molecule 1).
