Involved in several processes, including cholesterol homeostasis; positive regulation of triglyceride catabolic process; and response to glucagon. Located in caveola and recycling endosome membrane. Used to study atherosclerosis and xanthomatosis. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Alzheimer's disease; arteriosclerosis; familial hypercholesterolemia; hepatitis C; and migraine without aura.
