Enables serine-type peptidase activity. Involved in several processes, including ceramide metabolic process; pentacyclic triterpenoid metabolic process; and response to herbicide. Located in cytosol and mitochondrion. Used to study transient cerebral ischemia. Biomarker of asphyxia neonatorum; cryptorchidism; middle cerebral artery infarction; and status epilepticus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in 3-methylglutaconic aciduria type 8; Parkinson's disease; and motor neuron disease. Orthologous to human HTRA2 (HtrA serine peptidase 2).
