Involved in branched-chain amino acid catabolic process; phosphorylation; and spermatogenesis. Part of mitochondrial alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex. Used to study branched-chain keto acid dehydrogenase kinase deficiency and oligospermia. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in branched-chain keto acid dehydrogenase kinase deficiency.
