Involved in several processes, including cellular response to cytokine stimulus; generation of neurons; and regulation of gene expression. Located in chromatin and nuclear matrix. Used to study chronic myeloid leukemia and epilepsy. Biomarker of acute kidney failure. Orthologous to human HES1 (hes family bHLH transcription factor 1).
