Enables sequence-specific DNA binding activity and ubiquitin protein ligase binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to carbon monoxide; regulation of apoptotic process; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Used to study acute kidney failure; brain ischemia; diabetic retinopathy; hepatocellular carcinoma; and middle cerebral artery infarction. Biomarker of several diseases, including artery disease (multiple); bladder neck obstruction; decubitus ulcer; ischemia (multiple); and kidney failure (multiple). Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in lung non-small cell carcinoma; myocardial infarction; prostate cancer; and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human HIF1A (hypoxia inducible factor 1 subunit alpha). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]
