Involved in several processes, including cellular senescence; positive regulation of DNA replication; and positive regulation of ERK1 and ERK2 cascade. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of Ras protein signal transduction. Located in intracellular membrane-bounded organelle and plasma membrane. Used to study diabetic retinopathy and liver carcinoma. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including Costello syndrome; autistic disorder; carcinoma (multiple); epidermal nevus; and large congenital melanocytic nevus.
