Enables H3K27me3 modified histone binding activity and histone deacetylase binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cerebral cortex neuron differentiation; positive regulation of signal transduction by p53 class mediator; and spermatogenesis, exchange of chromosomal proteins. Located in heterochromatin and nucleus. Part of NuRD complex. Is expressed in central nervous system and dorsal root ganglion. Orthologous to human CHD5 (chromodomain helicase DNA binding protein 5).
