Enables several functions, including dopamine binding activity; dopamine neurotransmitter receptor activity, coupled via Gi/Go; and ionotropic glutamate receptor binding activity. Involved in several processes, including modulation of chemical synaptic transmission; nervous system development; and regulation of protein modification process. Located in several cellular components, including cytoplasmic vesicle; lateral plasma membrane; and perikaryon. Is active in GABA-ergic synapse and glutamatergic synapse. Is integral component of postsynaptic membrane and integral component of presynaptic membrane. Used to study Parkinsonism; cocaine dependence; and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Biomarker of several diseases, including Gilles de la Tourette syndrome; drug psychosis; hyperprolactinemia; opiate dependence (multiple); and toxic encephalopathy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including end stage renal disease; mental depression; migraine with aura; obesity; and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human DRD2 (dopamine receptor D2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]
