Located in neuron projection; perinuclear region of cytoplasm; and sarcomere. Biomarker of middle cerebral artery infarction; myocardial infarction; and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in congenital nonspherocytic hemolytic anemia and hemolytic anemia. Orthologous to human AK1 (adenylate kinase 1).
