Enables DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity; and chromatin binding activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of G0 to G1 transition; positive regulation of satellite cell activation involved in skeletal muscle regeneration; and trophoblast giant cell differentiation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including myoblast development; negative regulation of striated muscle tissue development; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Part of transcription regulator complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; early conceptus; genitourinary system; integumental system; and thymus. Orthologous to human SOX15 (SRY-box transcription factor 15).
