Involved in several processes, including insulin receptor signaling pathway; regulation of acetyl-CoA biosynthetic process from pyruvate; and regulation of gluconeogenesis. Acts upstream of or within regulation of calcium-mediated signaling. Located in mitochondrion. Part of mitochondrial pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. Is expressed in heart.
