Enables 14-3-3 protein binding activity. Involved in regulation of DNA damage checkpoint. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cellular response to DNA damage stimulus; response to ionizing radiation; and spermatogenesis. Located in centrosome and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; ganglia; gonad; lung; and spleen. Used to study autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy; and short-rib thoracic dysplasia 6 with or without polydactyly.
