Enables chromatin DNA binding activity and protein deacetylase activity. Involved in several processes, including circadian regulation of gene expression; positive regulation of cold-induced thermogenesis; and positive regulation of protein ubiquitination. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including histone H4-K12 deacetylation; negative regulation of cardiac muscle cell differentiation; and regulation of transcription, DNA-templated. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; early conceptus; embryo mesenchyme; and sensory organ. Used to study endometriosis.
