Acts upstream of or within negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Part of transcription repressor complex. Is active in GABA-ergic synapse; glutamatergic synapse; and presynaptic active zone cytoplasmic component. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; genitourinary system; limb; lung; and neural retina. Orthologous to human CTBP1 (C-terminal binding protein 1).
