Enables cyclin binding activity and cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cellular response to interleukin-4; cellular response to lipid; and regulation of lipid metabolic process. Located in bicellular tight junction; cytoplasm; and nucleus. Part of cyclin D2-CDK4 complex and transcription regulator complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; branchial arch; genitourinary system; nervous system; and sensory organ. Used to study type 1 diabetes mellitus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including carcinoma (multiple); familial melanoma; glioblastoma; obesity; and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
