Enables cysteine-type endopeptidase activity. Involved in intrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway in response to endoplasmic reticulum stress and self proteolysis. Acts upstream of or within apoptotic process and endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response. Located in endoplasmic reticulum. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; cardiovascular system; genitourinary system; and immune system. Orthologous to human CASP12 (caspase 12 (gene/pseudogene)).
