Acts upstream of or within leukotriene biosynthetic process and leukotriene production involved in inflammatory response. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in duodenum epithelium and small intestine epithelium. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in artery disease (multiple); asthma (multiple); pancreatic cancer; and pulmonary tuberculosis. Orthologous to human ALOX5 (arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase).
