Enables double-stranded RNA binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB signaling and positive regulation of myeloid dendritic cell cytokine production. Acts upstream of or within response to exogenous dsRNA and response to virus. Located in cytoplasmic stress granule; cytosol; and mitochondrion. Is expressed in several structures, including 1st branchial arch; cardiovascular system; central nervous system; genitourinary system; and stomach. Orthologous to human DDX1 (DEAD-box helicase 1).
